Are you ready to hear more about my adventures in Belize and Guatemala?! Don’t know what I’m talking about? Go back and read Part 1.
Ready? Hokay! So I left you off with my exploration of the Mayan ruins of Caracol…
Well the next day we were supposed to do some cave exploration but sadly it rained so much the day before the cave flooded and was closed! I wasn’t going to let it (literally) rain on my parade so I sat outside a cafe in San Ignacio and enjoyed a coffee and the view.
Confession: I, Pearl, have commitment issues. In pretty much every area of my life. Once, my aunt asked me if I wanted to buy season tickets to the off-Broadway theatre we frequently went to. I started to sweat. Heart palpitations. That meant staying in the Albany area for another year. Never mind the fact that I was still in school and was going to be living there for that. I couldn’t do it. I panicked. Told her I couldn’t do it. I know I’m crazy, you don’t have to tell me twice.
Anywho, my commitment issues cause me to be an extreme over-packer. The clothes are what used to trip me up. How am I supposed to commit to one outfit I will be wearing a week from now? What if the weather is bad? Or my shoes don’t match? I once brought 4 coats for a 4 day weekend home from college. Backpacking has certainly helped this because I’m limited to what I can carry on my back in addition to my toiletries, towel, first aid kit, and necessities like a knife, lighter and my lucky twine. Yes, I have lucky twine. I’ve had it since my junior year in college and I bring it on every trip with me. I have yet to actually need it but because it’s been on so many trips with me I’m terrified to go anywhere without it.
Guess who’s back, back again, Sassy’s back, tell a friend 🙂 While Marie aka “Pearl” is frolicking around Belize and Guatemala I am currently still in upstate New York where it has been colder than cold this past week…I mean I woke up to my weather app telling me it was -10° out WHAAAAAAAT?!?!!? Next week you will get to hear about Pearl’s travels but until then find out what a simpleton like me ate and did all in a day’s work 🙂
and yes…those are snowflakes and icicles on my eyelashes because i did not let a little cold weather keep me couped up all day! Yippee!

Welcome back to the Daily Dish of a Nutrition Genius! Rut rohhh. Pearl is not feeling so hot. I have a tickle of soreness in my throat I plan to fend off with good nutrition and lots of sleep before it knocks me down. Obviously the first thing I reached for was 12 oz of bone broth and 12 oz of coffee (at about 8 am).

Hello my amigos and welcome back to week #6 of the Daily Dish of a Nutrition Genius!
Today was a fun day! First thing I did was take Kayda for a short 15 minute walk. I like to get her (and myself) out for at least a 30 minute walk but sometimes it gets split into two walks throughout the day. When I got back I had 12 oz of water with 1-1/2 tsp magnesium powder and the juice of 1/4 lemon. Next up it was coffee time. As you know, I feel strongly about #nocoffeenoworkie so I had to mix up my Merry Minty Mocha quickly before Sassy and I jumped on a call. Of course, we ended up talking for hours so I didn’t have the opportunity to eat breakfast but that’s okay because instead I had 3 Merry Minty Mochas, oops. Normally I don’t drink this much coffee and I don’t encourage you to either but it was tasting so delish and warming me up this morning that I chose that over breakfast. Cocoa is from a tree so that counts as a vegetable, right? Continue reading “The Daily Dish of a Nutrition Genius Week 6”

Brrrrrrrr it sure is getting cold here in Rochester, NY!! Despite the cold I am determined to keep up with my running schedule so on this chilly morning I got my butt out of bed and went for a fasted 6.5 mile run in the snow.
After my run my first priority was re-hydrating so I started with 1 tsp of magnesium powder mixed with 12 oz of water. As you know from Nutrition Genius Radio Episode 12: Post-Workout we like to reserve our highest carbohydrate meal for after workouts to replenish our muscle glycogen and help rebuild our tissues.
