Friday Shout Outs #12

Happy Friday everyone!

We made it through another week and I hope you all are enjoying the last long week of summer this Labor Day weekend. We are finally all moved into our new house and could not be more excited. I have been learning things about myself and my hubby aka “Mr. Fix It” and cannot wait to see where this part of our journey takes us. If any of you have tips for first time homeowners I’d love to hear from you! Otherwise wish us luck, the neighbors are adorable but they keep bringing us donuts and cupcakes, eek! I don’t have the heart to refuse them because it’s so thoughtful but all I can think of is WHY WHY WHY processed junk! Luckily JJ has been bringing them to work and the manufacturing guys eat them all, but I still feel guilty having anyone consume them. PicMonkey Collage5

(Dear new neighbors if you are reading this I appreciate your kindness and welcoming nature, please no hard feelings!)

Hopefully someday soon I can share some delicious #sassyapproved delights with my neighbors but until them I welcome their smiles and kind gestures, it’s nice to feel welcomed in a new neighborhood! Alright, now on to this week’s shout outs!

On my radar:

Pumpkin! This is incredibly basic of me but I.LOVE.PUMPKIN. Seriously my mom used to send me her homemade pumpkin bread at least once per month in college for awhile. I also thought that I wanted pumpkin pie as my wedding cake…and then I had a June wedding and thought maybe not….but it still crossed my mind. I also love roasted pumpkin, pumpkin seeds, pumpkin coffee, pumpkin ice cream, pumpkin soup, pumpkin picking and my homemade PUMPKIN latte (with ACTUAL pumpkin in it.). I may or may not love wearing boots and sweaters and jeans and if that makes me basic then that’s exactly what I am. I am not wishing for fall quite yet as I am loving having a slight glow to my skin and being able to run outside without a long sleeve shirt or jacket. However, the return of all things pumpkin is SO exciting, who is with me?!

DIY home cleaning! If you listen to our podcast then you know Kresha from Nourishing Joy is all about natural living. Well moving into my own house has me inspired to do as much natural house cleaning and living as physically possible. Step one was putting Thieves in my Young Living Diffuser and making the whole place smell amazing. Step two was cleaning the old washer, dryer and dishwasher out so that we could use them and not have to replace them! Success! Using just hot water, vinegar and baking soda all are functioning, pearly white and smelling fabulously. Stay tuned for more DIY home care information. Step three? Stay tuned.

On my instagram:

No matter how busy I am, I always seem to check out Instagram. It’s a nice snapshot into peoples’ lives and gives me great inspiration and a few chuckles. Want food, fitness and randomness? Check out @thesassydieitian 🙂

@ambitiouskitchen if you want some pretty amazing pictures of food that will keep you drooling all day, erry day, go check out this chick and start getting hungry immediately. Her latest post? A brand new recipe for Honey Sriracha marinated wild salmon served over a spiralized sesame cucumber noodle salad, um yes please!

@thespunkycoconut great pictures of food, her adorable family AND she just posted a picture with a recipe for homemade pumpkin cinnamon buns and I want to eat them though my phone. It also appears that she is working on some gluten free flour mixes, cannot wait to see what she has in store for us allergen-free folk! Check out The Spunky Coconut for her website, cookbook and more!

@fresheggsdaily makes raising chickens and ducks very ideal, even though I know the work put in is enormous and incredible. I hope to use her tips and tricks down the road when we get chickens and ducks (probably not until we have a bigger yard!). Any one in the Albany area raise chickens? Check out Lisa on instagram and her blog for more helpful information and beautiful pictures.

On my reading list:

With moving and a few projects on my list, the last thing i’ve had time for is reading. One of my goals is to set aside a 1/2 hour each day to read (not on the internet) an actual book so I have made myself a list, any suggestions are welcome! Also, anyone else keep a giant running WISH LIST on amazon? I realized I do that and forget to look at 99.9% of what I have on there.

The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing by Marie Kondo I first saw this on my mama’s bookshelf and will have to borrow it from her soon. It’s been on the NY Times Best Sellers list for quite some time and I have heard rave reviews. I personally just did a HUGE clean out with moving but I still think I could learn a thing or two from this book. Anyone read it yet?

Adult Coloring Book: Stress Relieving Patterns by Blue Star Coloring because I am a giant kid inside and never grew out of wanting to color and be creative. I have a few friends who say they still color and I think that’s brilliant. The last time I really colored was when there were rainy days when I worked as a Lifeguard/Swim Coach and I sure do miss that down time 🙂

Rising Strong by Brene Brown IF you have not heard of Brene Brown you do not know what you are missing. Pearl introduced me and I’ve been hooked ever since. She has some WILDLY POPULAR Ted Talks, books and so much more. She was recently on Tim Ferris’ Podcast talking about vulnerability and I think everyone can take something positive from her work. This book is sure to be empowering, enlightening and so much more.

Ok friends, that’s a wrap for the week. Enjoy your Friday and I hope you have a fabulous weekend planned. 🙂

I want to hear from you!

What are you excited for this FALL?

Any tips for new homeowners?
