The Daily Dish of A Nutrition Genius Week 7

Merry Christmas!!!

Hi Friends! Sassy Here 🙂 So this week’s dish comes to you from Maryland…that’s right below the Mason-Dixon line! I am home visiting my family and enjoying every bit of it…plus my mom is a fabulous cook and believes in the JUST EAT REAL FOOD philosophy so how could a gal complain?! Read on to see what my day consisted of and you will be rewarded with a RECIPE!!! xoxo

Well what I noticed is that on break, I tend to eat less and I think it’s because I sleep more so there are literally less hours for me to graze and get hungry…that might be a word to the wise to those who don’t get enough sleep and complain about excess hunger, GET YOUR SLEEP!

Ok enough of the preaching and on to my daily dish, I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas and are enjoying this time with your family and friends…once you are done reading this I urge you to get up and GET MOVING!!!

Getting to sleep in (until 8) is a novelty and I enjoyed it!!! I rolled out of bed and the smell of bacon was already wafting through the house. Before I could eat…JJ and I decided we needed to get a workout in so we went for a nice run around the block. If you’ve met the 2 of us you know we cannot sit still and if we do we fall asleep!

After our run we decided we must eat the bacon…but I always start with my fluids because I like to make sure I get bone broth and water before I forget!!

So here was Pre-Brunch:

Merry-Minty Mocha (made with Carob Powder)
Bone-Broth Mama A Style
– Water with Magnesium Powder & fresh squeezed lemon

And then Brunch: French Toast Casserole with Bacon, Roasted Broccoli (recipe coming soon) and Cauliflower sautéed in duck fat

We then decided to go ice skating with my older brother and his kids…we probably shouldn’t have ran earlier because kids WILL wear you out…but they are so so SO fun!!

The kids and the boys grabbed lunch at Jason’s Deli where they have a pretty great menu that has “gluten-sensitive” options but I was full and cautious 🙂

Then we headed to ice-skating!! My nephew is just learning and since Uncle JJ pretty much grew up on skates who better then him to teach our nephew?!

When we got home I was so tired so I put on my Onesie that my brother and sister-in-law got me…

Had some Homemade SIMPLE Chili...

Simple Sweet Potato Chili

Simple Sweet Potato Chili

Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp. Extra Virgin Olive Oil (or other fat)
  • 1 large sweet onion, chopped
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 lbs. ground meat (I used beef but you can use veal, pork, chicken, turkey, etc.)
  • 2 large sweet potatoes, peeled and chopped
  • 1-28oz. can organic diced tomatoes
  • 2 Tbsp. tomato paste
  • 2 tsp. Garlic Powder
  • 2 tsp. ground Cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. Salt
  • 1/2 tsp. ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. In a large saute pan over medium heat, heat oil and saute onions and garlic for 3-4 minutes until softened.
  2. Add onion and garlic mixture to a large crockpot.
  3. Add the rest of the ingredients to the crockpot and stir to combine and mix well.
  4. Cover crockpot, set on low and cook for 6-8 hours.

then I needed some peppermint tea and then it was bedtime!!

I brushed my teeth with my homemade toothpaste and called it quits 🙂 Oh you want the recipe?! If you do let me know and I will post it for you guys soon!
